The sunset strip riots gave birth to The Monterey Pop Festival. The Beatles couldn't make it, but recommended a few new UK acts like The Who and the then unknown Jimi Hendrix (who literally ignited his career in front of the biggest teen audiences ever assembled). No longer a thing for nightclubs, rock music was now outdoors: blaring over open fields of communal young music fans in what would become the dawn of the modern concert industry.
