ANGELO GUINASSO: JUNIOR VARSITY COACH

Angelo brings 10 years of coaching experience and more than 20 years of competitive volleyball experience to our program. After graduating from Cal Poly – SLO with a degree in engineering, Angelo moved to Huntington Beach in 1989 to work for the Boeing Company.  He is a senior engineering manager responsible for approximately 400 engineers across Southern California.  He is credited for leading a team of industry experts who developed and published the first National Standard for fusion welding in the aircraft and aerospace industries.  His profession requires focus and attention to detail; he brings the same focus and attention to detail to the volleyball court.

Angelo has been involved with competitive sports all his life.  In high school, he experienced the Conference Finals with his soccer team, competed in triathlons and raced motocross.  In college, he was award most improved player on the water polo team.  He won the West Coast Regional Cycling Championships and placed third at the Collegiate Nationals.  Although he didn’t start playing competitive volleyball until after college, his excitement for the game and competitive drive quickly brought him to the ranks of top10 rated beach player in California, including qualifying and competing in multiple AVP Pro Beach Volleyball events.  Angelo still holds a CBVA rating and, when time allows, continues to play at local events.

His ability to develop new skills, along with the desire to see his own kids excel, has now driven him to a new passion of coaching youth sports.  Starting with soccer and now volleyball, Angelo takes great pride in helping others develop new skills.  In 2007 he was awarded South Huntington Beach “Coach of the Year” from AYSO.  For the past 3 years, Angelo has coached at one of SoCal’s largest club volleyball programs.  He has received formal training by Olympic gold medal winning volleyball coaches (Carl McGown, Jim McLaughlin and Marv Dunphy) at the “Gold Medal Squared” coaching clinic and continues to develop and educate himself on the skill of coaching.

Angelo is married to Cindy Guinasso (an NCAA Div II national tennis champion) and has two children, Gianna (12) and Grant (9).  They live in Down Town Huntington Beach and can often be found playing volleyball as a family just south of the Huntington Beach Pier.
