OILERS…TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY OF NEXT WEEK ARE LATE START DAYS. ZERO PERIOD BEGINS AT 8:34 AND 1ST AND 2ND PERIOD WILL START AT 9:21.

Hey Oilers…we are pleased to announce your September Teacher of the Month…Mrs. Young! Congratulations. Don’t forget to vote for next month’s teacher in the Activities Office.

Juniors and seniors…the Career Center is hosting numerous colleges here at HBHS. On campus today is the University of Colorado at Boulder, on Thursday, October 2nd, Seattle University and on Friday, North Carolina School of the Arts. For specific times, please see our website and don’t forget to pick up a permission slip ahead of time! (End 10/1)

If you have received an “A” in a class and wish to become a peer tutor earning $10 per hour, please pick up an application from Mrs. Wakeman in the Career Center.

All juniors and motivated sophomores…the PSAT will be on Saturday, October 18th. You may register for the test through October 8th in the Finance Office. The cost of the test is $20.

All students…you only have 5 days to clear an absence. You must bring a note to the attendance office within that time or the absence will turn truant and will not be cleared. Saturday school will be assigned. Once you are on campus and you have to leave for an appointment do not leave campus without checking out through the attendance or health office. You must receive a checkout slip, without this slip your absence will be a truant and will not be cleared for any reason. Saturday School will be assigned. Parent requests and vacations are considered unexcused absences. The teachers do not have to give makeup work for classes missed. Any questions about attendance please come and see up.

Homecoming is only a month away. Please make sure that you have served all Saturday School and detention hours PRIOR to tickets going on sale. Also remember, Citizenship grades matter. If you have two “U’s” in citizenship, you will not be able to attend the Homecoming Dance. (End 10/17)

Hey Oilers…got a teacher you really like? Well then vote for Teacher of the Month in the Activities Office.

Financial obligations must be paid before your Homecoming Dance permission slip is approved. Check by the Financial Office window or by the outside door to Supervision to see if you forgot to pay anything.

Attention seniors…Grad Night tickets are on sale now for $150. Ticket prices will go up after October 31st, so buy NOW before they do. Grad Night is an all night evening celebration filled with prizes, food, games and so much more! Forms were mailed home in the school newsletter and are also available on hboilers.com or in front of Julie Engquist’s office.

The yearbook staff would like to thank all the Oilers who sent in awesome photos for the summer page. They have more than is necessary now, so we will not be accepting any more photos. Thanks.

Attention all HBHS club presidents…please stop by the Activities Office to inform us when your club will meet. We have had many students inquiring for meeting dates and locations.

Congratulations to HBHS Girls Field Hockey Teams on their home field wins yesterday against Fountain Valley High School. Varsity won 2 to Zero and Junior Varsity won 7 to Zero.

Attention wresting enthusiasts…there will be a mandatory parent meeting on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 7:15 p.m. in the Student Center. Please be prepared to pay registration fees and uniform fees at this meeting. At least one parent and wrestler must attend this meeting.

Attention dodgeball teams…Monday and Tuesday bring your money to pay at the gym at lunch. These days are for practice. We will begin regular play on Wednesday.

The date for HBHS’ CURE S.C.I. meeting has changed from October 7th to October 9th in Mr. Milne’s room, A42. We hope to see you there!

Do you think you can wow us? Participate in the 2008-2009 Reflections contest! The Theme is “Wow!” Entry forms and rules are available in the Activities Office. All entries must be submitted by today, October 3rd at 3 p.m.

Our September Seniors of the Month are Nicholas Johnson and Jenna Belhumeur. After graduating from Huntington, Nick plans on attending a four-year college or university. His dream school is UCI to study biomedical engineering. Nick enjoys acting, singing, dancing and spending time with his friends. During his four years at HBHS Nick participates in organizations such as Spanish Club, MUN, Link Crew and National Honors Society. Participating in at least one mainstage show all four years, Nick is actively involved in our school’s Academy for the Performing Arts. Jenna is the essence of a Huntington Oiler! She is involved in clubs on campus such as CSF, Link Crew, Key Club and National Honors Society. Jenna is currently the MUN Secretary General and ASB Vice President. Additionally, Jenna dances in the Academy of the Performing Arts. She hopes to attend Stanford University and major in law or journalism. Jenna hopes that her future career involves traveling the world and learning from diverse groups of people. Congratulations Nicholas and Jenna for being our September Seniors of the Month!
