OILERS…TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY OF NEXT WEEK ARE LATE START DAYS. ZERO PERIOD BEGINS AT 8:34 AND 1ST AND 2ND PERIOD WILL START AT 9:21.

Juniors and seniors…the Career Center is hosting numerous colleges here at HBHS. On campus today is the University of Colorado at Boulder, on Thursday, October 2nd, Seattle University and on Friday, North Carolina School of the Arts. For specific times, please see our website and don’t forget to pick up a permission slip ahead of time! (End 10/1)

If you have received an “A” in a class and wish to become a peer tutor earning $10 per hour, please pick up an application from Mrs. Wakeman in the Career Center.

All juniors and motivated sophomores…the PSAT will be on Saturday, October 18th. You may register for the test from September 22nd through October 8th in the Finance Office. The cost of the test is $20.

All students…you only have 5 days to clear an absence. You must bring a note to the attendance office within that time or the absence will turn truant and will not be cleared. Saturday school will be assigned. Once you are on campus and you have to leave for an appointment do not leave campus without checking out through the attendance or health office. You must receive a checkout slip, without this slip your absence will be a truant and will not be cleared for any reason. Saturday School will be assigned. Parent requests and vacations are considered unexcused absences. The teachers do not have to give makeup work for classes missed. Any questions about attendance please come and see up.

Sign up for the HBHS Dodge ball Tournament in the Activities Office. The Tournament will be during lunch. 6 people to a team; 3 guys and 3 girls, $5 per person.

Are you a great singer? Do you have pride in your country? Try outs for the National Anthem for the Homecoming assembly are October 2nd in the Activities Office. Sign up in the Activities Office today! (End 10/2)

Homecoming is only a month away. Please make sure that you have served all Saturday School and detention hours PRIOR to tickets going on sale. Also remember, Citizenship grades matter. If you have two “U’s” in citizenship, you will not be able to attend the Homecoming Dance. (End 10/17)

Hey Oilers…got a teacher you really like? Well then vote for Teacher of the Month in the Activities Office.

Attention seniors…Grad Night tickets are on sale now for $150. Ticket prices will go up after October 31st, so buy NOW before they do. Grad Night is an all night evening celebration filled with prizes, food, games and so much more! Forms were mailed home in the school newsletter and are also available on hboilers.com or in front of Julie Engquist’s office.

The yearbook staff would like to thank all the Oilers who sent in awesome photos for the summer page. They have more than is necessary now, so we will not be accepting any more photos. Thanks.

Congratulations to the HBHS Girls Field Hockey Teams which overwhelmingly WON their first Sunset League games yesterday against Marina High School Vikings. Varsity score was 7 to 1 (4 of those goals made by Colleen Ryan) and Junior Varsity score was 5 to 1. Students can watch them play Thursday against Fountain Valley High School here at home on the Worthy Park field at 3:15 for Varsity and 4:30 for Junior Varsity.

Congratulations to Varsity Girls’ Volleyball for their dominating win against Fountain Valley last night. You go girls!

Attention all HBHS club presidents…please stop by the Activities Office to inform us when your club will meet. We have had many students inquiring for meeting dates and locations.

If you are interested in learning more about the Arms Trade Treaty, join Amnesty International for an information meeting today at lunch in room A44. Remember…it’s okay to care.

Animal Shelter Services Club now meets again every Thursday at lunch in room J14. This is a great way to help out animals and earn community service credit. Come on by and check it out!

There is a Bridges meeting today at lunch in B22. Come to our first Bridges meeting of the year today in room B22 at lunch.

Hey Oilers…don’t forget that this Thursday, October 2nd is our first Friday Night Live meeting in room A10. Don’t miss out on the fun. Help plan HB’s Red Ribbon celebration this month.

There will be an Invisible Children Club meeting on Thursday in room J8.

Do you want to improve your debate skills? Do you want to participate in political presentations and simulated government? Then come join the Junior Statesmen of America, the central political forum at HBHS; looks great on college applications and prestigious awards presented annually. Meet in Mr. Harmicar’s room, A41 for pizza and the convening at the 2nd annual congress on Thursday, October 2nd at lunch. (End 10/2)

This message is for all Link Crew Leaders…our 2nd mandatory meeting for the year is this Thursday at lunch in room C1. Please bring your lunch and be on time as we have some good news and surprises for you.

Attention all Pink Ribbon Club members…our first official meeting is today at lunch in portable 1. Hope to see you there to help find a cure for breast cancer.

The 12-Step Recovery Meeting has been cancelled this week, Thursday, October 2nd. The meetings will resume again next week on Thursday, October 9th from 6-7 p.m. in the HBHS Library.
